Golf Day 2019 - East Anglia Air Ambulance

6/8/2019

Comments

After the watery deluges of the week prior to the Masteroast Golf Day, we ended up being extremely lucky with the weather at Greetham Valley and the full house of 72 golfers teed off under some warm sunshine.

The bar staff in the clubhouse were kept busy as the 18 teams completed their rounds later on in the afternoon, before everyone spruced themselves up for a delicious dinner.

This year we were delighted to have a guest speaker join us in the form of Tim Stimpson, former Leicester Tiger, British Lion and England International rugby player. Tim’s stories from his rugby days, humour and thought provoking life philosophies were a fantastic addition to proceedings. And of course our Chairman, Les Mills, provided us with more of his unique stand-up material!

This year’s chosen charity was East Anglian Air Ambulance, a very popular choice amongst our guests who, through sponsorship of the day, cash donations and by purchasing raffle tickets, raised an incredible grand total of £3,375.00. A cheque was presented to a hugely thankful Tammy Swiderski, charity representative.

Sincere thanks as always to all those who donated money or bought raffle tickets, and of course a big thank you for the support from the companies who kindly sponsored our event and those that donated raffle prizes:

CTCS Green Coffee, Marco Beverage Systems, Bravilor Bonomat, Floryn Ltd, Caps Cases, RGS Labels, Lotus Bakeries UK, Goglio, Maxilla Packaging, Plasto-Sac UK, HSBC, MHA MacIntyre Hudson, Saffron Insurance, The Pallet Network (Anglia), InterAmerican Coffee, Quest Employment, Complete Coffee, TRC Speciality Commodities, DR Wakefield, Barry Callebaut, Birchall, Taylors of Harrogate, Greetham Valley, East Anglian Air Ambulance, Fine Foods International, Skoulikas Bedford.

Once again, the stalwart of the Masteroast Golf Days – Dennis “Big Mac” Macnamara – was on hand to announce and distribute the individual and team prizes.
For the men:
In 3rd place was Hallmark Vending’s Ben Cooper. 2nd place went to Mark Ayling from Complete Coffee and this year’s first prize went to rookie Peter Wardlaw from Plasto-Sac UK. Peter seemingly continuing what is somewhat of a Plasto-Sac tradition for those of you who remember Edward Whitehead who used to win at least two prizes each year!

For the ladies:
In 2nd place was Masteroast’s Eve Mills and taking the 2019 top spot Penny Gilbert from The Pallet Network (Anglia).
Team prize:

The team prize was awarded to Team 13 (not so unlucky for them!) with a finishing score of 90 points. Team members Paul York – Fine Foods International, John Ferguson – A.V.S., Freddie Chambers – Lindum Group and Peter Wardlaw (there he is again!) – Plasto-Sac UK.

Prizes for Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive went to Ross Campbell (Plasto-Sac UK) and Michael Latchem (Café du Monde).
In a bid to emulate how the professionals do it we now also have a very dapper jacket to present. Ours however is made from hessian sacks (I think the lining is green…) and instead of giving it to the winner we are giving ours out as the Booby Prize each year. Well done to the Masteroast Chairman, Les Mills for being so kind as to have a bad enough round to receive the jacket in its inaugural year!

Congratulations to all those who won prizes and of course our heartfelt thanks to everyone for coming and making the event what it is.

See you all on the tee next year!
